Yo ho ho and a bottle of milk…

We were trying to wait until International talk like a pirate day, but September seemed so very far away and today was so gloomy that we decided to have a Pirate adventure!

Pirate Day

We had a treasure map that led us to the island where we uncovered a chest filled with skeletons, chocolate coins, shiny beads, a goblet and a yukky squidgy skull

Pirate Day

We were pretty hungry by this point, so we stopped for a bite to eat

Pirate Day

Sausage and mash pirate ship and a broccoli boat

Pirate Day

Then we ate a very yummy Pirate pudding

Pirate Day

Mrs Armitage kindly donated the pirate napkins to us and everything we used on the day we already had in our Halloween box, our Christmas box or were free downloadable printouts online.  I printed the signs for our pirate pudding from www.justsweetandsimple.blogspot.com

After dinner Thom went to the park to play on the pirate ship with Moo-Ma and Moo-Pa and then we played on our island

Our Pirate ship was made from a Morrisons banana box.  We use these quite a bit on our themed days.  Good old Morrisons!

But then our ship was overtaken by Old Captain Sea Dog and his band of pirates!  Oh no!  I mean, Shiver me timbers!

Pirate Day

They made us walk the plank!

Luckily we didn’t visit Davy Jones’ Locker but swam safely to shore and cuddled up on the couch to watch The Pirates!  Band of Misfits.  What a grand great adventuaaarrr!

The Chronicles of Camm Street…

Today we decided it would be a wonderful day to visit Narnia…so we did!

Me and Pickle emptied out our wardrobe and moved it into the lounge.  Inside we hung our dressing gowns as fur coats and made a dressing up/reading area.  The Christmas tree made another appearance!

Narnia Day 025

I made an Aslan mask.  I got the template from The Magical World of Narnia by Brian Sibley and drew the face on.  There are lots of brilliant activities in the book but they are mostly for older children

Narnia Day 003

The Sparklist and Ron Burgundy let us borrow their Christmas tree for the day for our White Witch’s Kingdom

 Narnia Day 004

I got a fruit crate from Morrisons, painted it black and put cushions and blankets inside.  I attached a lantern  and filled it with battery powered fairy lights.

Narnia Day 016

It made a nice bed for Moo-Cat who was our Aslan for the day

 Narnia Day 008

I dressed up as the White Witch

Narnia Day 033

Narnia Day 029

I made a lamp-post so we could find our way back to Spare Oom and War Drobe

Narnia Day 058

We had lunch with Mr Tumnus

 Narnia Day 037

“And really it was a wonderful tea.  There was a nice brown egg, lightly boiled, for each of them, and then sardines on toast, and then buttered toast, and then toast with honey, and then a sugar topped cake.”

Moo-Pa quickly sketched a portrait of an old Faun with a grey beard to put on the mantelpiece over the fire.

 Narnia Day 039

We re-spined some of our books with titles Mr Tumnus has in his little cave and added a little pile of his brown paper parcels.

 Narnia Day 034

After lunch we went to play in the snow and Moo-Ma made a miniature snowman

We then went inside to warm up.  We coloured in some pictures of Mr Tumnus and Lucy before we all got a bit kippy and had a nap.

 Narnia Day 055

Narnia Day 056

I made a wipe-able dinner mat of a map of Narnia and instead of Turkish Delight we ate rather too many Snowball chocolates (I had meant to save some for you Pickle, sorry!)

Narnia Day 031

Narnia Day 032

We made some fancy paper snowflakes

Narnia Day 010

And we’re now off to watch the film and play before we have tea with Mr and Mrs Beaver.  What a fab day!

Narnia Day 048edit

Just one day out of life… it has been, it has been so nice….

Today has been exactly what it should have been for the first full day of the holidays (I never count the weekends, we luckily get them anyway)…

Last night we got back late from Leeds after a very full and exciting weekend which included the following activities… Me and Mrs Armitage went to the Showroom to watch Ghostbusters on the big screen for our friend Ms Moz’s birthday.  It was brilliant!  I hadn’t remembered that our heroes smoked so much… now it’s mostly restricted to the bad guys.

Then we had a few beers and some nibbles before we went on to have a very lovely meal overlooking the winter gardens.  It was so nice, but unfortunately we had to leave early (before pudding can you believe!) to catch a train to the next lot of birthday celebrations.

We hot footed it to the station and met Pickle on the platform just in time to open a bottle and settle in as the train pulled away.  We then went onto Back to Basics to celebrate another of our friend’s birthdays.  Much sparkly-ness later and we ended up at Sibot’s house who thoroughly looked after us the next day.  He provided more food containing sugar and salt than you can shake a Twiglet at, and settled us on the couch to watch Toy Story 3… which was surprising brilliant… maybe it was just the mood I was in…

We got home that night quite late, but with enough time to make a little nest in our garden lounge, lined with big squishy sofa cushions, heavy blankets and our fluffy quilt.  Me and Pickle Tray snuggled up, ate pizza and potato salad and watched Stardust until we fell asleep…. Bliss

Which leads me onto today… I am still unwashed and in the nest and it is twelve minutes past five… I have done two loads of washing in between taking naps, knitting, stitching felt noses onto felt pumpkins and watching some bits and pieces… I watched Notes on a Scandal earlier (I cannot rate that film enough… and if you haven’t got around to reading the book yet I highly highly highly recommend it) and I’m half way through watching Dylan Moran’s What it is, which is also very good so far.  I love holidays and don’t really want to work ever again…would that be okay?
